We have piloted The Reclaimed Project throughout 2016-17 as part of our specific pupil premium funding plan. It has allowed us to intervene with a small cohort of disengaged/disadvantaged students who are at risk of exclusion. This extra layer of support provides students with the opportunity to not only be successful in a tangible way but also to reflect on their behaviour. Students who are participating in programme have enjoyed a feeling of success through the designing and crafting of the furniture and recognise that it is a key part of their week that they enjoy and look forward to, thus improving school engagement.

The Reclaimed Project has had a positive effect on students’ attitude towards school. Results from our attitude to learning league table show steady improvement from students who have taken advantage of the relationship established between themselves and Bryn, as a mentor.

TLG appreciate and welcome all that you do with our young people. It has been a blessing.
— D. Barnett, Head Teacher, TLG West London
The Reclaimed Project has engaged a range of pupils facing a variety of challenges such as low self-esteem, disengagement and social issues. Over the course of the project the students develop their ability to reflect on the choices they make both in and out of school and the impact they have on them, their peers and their families. As a result of this and the bespoke targets set they are able to make a positive difference in their lives.
— G. Bingham, Head of Year 9
The Reclaimed Project has enabled students to re-evaluate their thinking; it has provided them with a toolkit of strategies to support their relationships with both peers and staff. It has also supported their self esteem and allowed them to work on projects that are totally unique to them - they learn that in order to build and create something successful, they need to plan it, find materials and resources suitable and continue to refine it in order to get to the end product - this process builds resilience among the students participating.
